The Heritage Tree Committee of the St.Thomas Field Naturalist Club Inc. was established in 1990 to stimulate interest of the significant native and introduced tree species in Elgin County.
The current committee includes five members whose extensive volunteer input and contributions are valued: Frank Lattanzio, Keith Malcolm, Lorne Spicer, Ted Suckley and Ann Vance.
These trees represent a portion of our natural heritage and this web site has been
created to assist viewers in finding and enjoying specimens of some interesting
and unusual trees of the County of Elgin.
A total of one hundred twenty-four trees in St. Thomas, one hundred forty in East Elgin and one hundred forty-two in West Elgin have been selected and labelled as representatives of the county’s diverse flora. They have been chosen because of their interest, rarity, size, accessibility and due to the generous co-operation of the landowners.
The Tree Committee acknowledges with thanks the help it has received in producing this pamphlet from the following:
○ Members of the St.Thomas Photographic Guild have supplied all of the images for this project.
○ Tony and Judit Pritchard of London assisted with the photographing of heritage trees in East Elgin.
○ Special thanks go to Ted Suckley who built and implemented this internet application and to Peter Atkinson who researched and designed the model for the web site. Without Peter this web site would still be a very distant dream for the Heritage Tree Committee.
